Weekend studies

Practice makes perfect, right?  Well I have a new mannequin head I just cut at school yesterday and her hair is screaming for color.  I'm thinking about coloring her hair black with red foiled in, I will part her hair into four sub-sections, starting at the bottom of each sub-section I will section off  1/2 inch horizontal partings and foil in alternating colors from the bottom to the top of each sub-section and all the way around the head keeping the color placement consistent and symmetrical.  When I'm done I will style her hair and take some pics to post. Stayed tuned.............

The perks of cosmo school

Today while in school I had a Microdermabrasion Treatment done and my face feels great.  So soft and smooth and it cost me nothing.  This service in the salons cost upwards of $200 bucks but hey students at the school need guinea pigs and I am game.  It was my first one and I will be sure to have this done at least 2 times a month if I can volunteer again.  Its Friday and I am off till next week Tuesday.  We have a test on Tuesday covering the current chapter we are in, which covers perms and relaxers.  The chapter is technically called Texturizing chemical services.

Fridays are lab days

Today in school we are doing relaxers.  Not with the chemicals, just a mock using conditioner instead of Sodium Hydroxide or a Thioglycolate one.  Thats some serious chemicals right there.  You can get some serious chemicals burns from it too. Look here and you can see for yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_hydroxide

I must admit after reading all the uses of this chemical I am absolutely amazed anyone puts this in there hair.  But the price we pay for beauty is sometimes priceless. I seen this lady's story and I thought you may enjoy the read. http://thankgodimnatural.wordpress.com/2009/11/16/natural-chic-of-the-week-isabella-brooekhuizen/

Summer Break

So I've been on summer break for 2 weeks this coming Wednesday.  I must say I am so ready to be back in school.  Our quarters are 12 weeks long with a 2 week break between except for xmas I think they give us 4 weeks. My expected graduation is for September of 2011 just as long as I have the 1500 hrs required to take my state board license test. I currently have 170 hrs and once I have 200 hrs  I can start working on the salon floor part time. I am very excited to get on the floor.  I really like cutting hair, and everything else there is to do with hair.  I find it very easy to learn.  It's as if I've been there before, like maybe in another life.  Anyways 2 nd quarter begins July 15th and I am very excited.  In this quarter we will be learning Chemicals!!!!!!!! This is so going to be my fav.  I must pay close attention, I want to be a color specialist someday. I love working with colors and making statements.

A pink that last's forever!

So many times when I am out I am asked who does your hair and what color pink is that?  Well I do my hair myself, colors that is.  I have found by far the best best pink to use is made by special effects http://www.specialeffectsusa.com/hair_dye.html the color I use is Atomic Pink .  Its awesome and very bright.  I lighten my hair prior to using it. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Oh lets not forget to mention the fact that some colors glow in black light

New Mannequin head

I purchased a mannequin head on ebay, she has long brown hair.  I have not decided what I am going to do with her.  Any suggestions would be cool.  I am learning and wanting to experiment with different things.  Thanks.

Gave my mom a new hairdo

Yesterday I went over to my moms to color and cut her hair.  She has been completely gray for like the past 10 yrs.  Well I colored her hair cinnamon brown and golden blonde.  Boy she sure loved it!  And it took about 9yrs off her too.  Shame on me for not having my camera with me for a before and after.  Another happy client!

Kamisori Shears

I purchased a pair of Kamisori Shears http://www.kamisorishears.com/JEWEL.html and I just love them! They cut better than any pair I have tried.  There very sharp, the finish on them is very nice and they fit pretty good in the palm.  I do have a fairly large hands, so they might be a bit big for some.   Overall I love them.

Different Hair styles I have created

I got a hair cut and changed my colors!!!

long time no post

Hi everyone, so sorry i have not posted in some time.  I have been super busy with school.  The 1st quarter ended June 30th.  My final grades for the quarter were 100 in both cosmo classes.  I am cutting hair pretty good now.  I'll post a few pics of some stuff I have been doing at home.  I am on summer break right now and go back to school on July 14th.  I miss school actually.  I was in a routine and used to getting up and going each day.  I look forward to being at school in the 3rd quarter for 40 hrs per week.  Hey at least I get to keep my tips. haha.   I doubt anyone out there is even taking the time to read my posts.  But if you are I will try to post more often and keep better updates.
